Getting your head around weight loss...

Sometimes I struggle with realising how much I have lost. I look in the mirror and see the same person I saw 12 months ago - 30kg heavier than I am now! I look at the sizes on my clothes - mostly 12s, some 14s and the occasional (generous fit) 10, but I somehow think they are wrong.

Then I have days where I feel fantastic. I feel fit and healthy, and am very proud of what I have done. I still have a bit to go, but I have complete confidence that I will do it.

Do the 'fat person' feelings ever go away?

82.6!!!!

I have finally broken under 83kg. I've been 83.something for the last month. I've been losing centimetres, but not on the scales. Now I have just lost 1kg in 2 days! Might have something to do with 1 hour running group and 1 hour PT session yesterday, plus moving house in between. I had to have a lie down for an hour last night because I was so exhausted! Anyway, it has paid off – bring on the 70s!

Running Group Session 2 Survived and Completed

There were moments when I thought I wasn't going to make it - but I did! This morning we had a track that we had to run at 'race pace' and complete in 6 minutes. If we got back early, we got a rest. If we didn't, we just had to keep running onto the next lap. After the first lap I had a 30 second rest, then after that there were no more rests. I did walk some bits, but I kept going. It was so hard.

I must admit though, an hour goes pretty quick when all you are thinking about is breathing. I have read alot about how people have mantras when they run. Normally I count 3 steps and breath - kind of weird, but it works for me. Today on my last lap I was just repeating in my head "don't spew, don't spew". It was all I could do to keep going!

I'm doing the Mini Mos on Sunday. Just the 5km though – I am going to try and run the whole lot.

I didn't weigh myself this morning cause it was 5.15 and I couldn't be bothered opening my eyes enough to read the scales. But as of yesterday, I was still around the same as last week. Not bad considering I spent a weekend eating! All good healthy food, just alot of it. There were a few glasses of wine as well.

I survived running group

I survived my first running group session! For a while there I wasn't sure I would!!! I ran further and for longer than I even have before so was quite pleased with myself. I didn't stop and walk at all – I ran when everyone else ran. Although when we had a minute's rest I did stand and hold the treadmill up whilst trying to breathe! Just breathing was enough for me.

I'll be back for session 2 on Wednesday morning.

Running Group

I start running group in the morning - I am excited and scared at the same time! This is the first time I have ever done anything like this - EVER! It is a 10 week program, training for the City 2 Surf. I am looking forward to it, but worried I am going to be the slowest person there. Not that it really matters I guess, but I've always been last at sports and would really like to be something different this time around seeing I have been training for 10 months. But running is still relatively new for me, and I am nowhere near doing 14km without some walk breaks, so we will wait and see!

Here's the plan for this week:
Monday - rest day, light walking
Tuesday - 45 min walking, 1 hour PT weights
Wednesday - 45 min walking, 1 hour running group
Thursday - 45 min walking, 1 hour PT
Friday - 45 min walking, 1 hour running group, 1 hour PT
Saturday - rest day
Sunday - 2-3 hours walking up a mountain!

After this week, I have 1 PT session left with Nathan, and then I am training with Dan. I am going to brave the fitness tests - including the fat pinching test - so I can really see where I am at. He will work out my fitness age which should be interesting. My guess is that I am of average fitness, my fitness age is probably pretty close to my real age (29) and that I still have way too much body fat! OK, that last one is a given! I haven't done these tests before cause I didn't want to hear the truth. I was going along so well on my weight loss journey that I didn't want to see a bunch of figures that confirmed what I already knew. But now I want to get an idea of exactly how far I have to go and what to work on, so it is time to face the truth. I'll post the results once I have them.
