Dreams

Last night I dreamt that a plane landed in the paddock at my parent's place. It didn't crash - it just landed there. It was a big plane - like an international one.

The closest interpretation I could find is this:

Airplanes
To see an airplane in your dream, indicates that you will overcome your obstacles and rise above to a new level of prominence and status. You may experience a higher consciousness, new-found freedom and greater awareness.

To dream that you transfer planes, implies an important transitional phase in your life which will take you away from your intended path. Changes will occur in your life which will take you to new directions and new heights of status and recognition.

I like it!

Update

Lots of news! Firstly, I have decided to hold off on the counselling idea for now as I am feeling on top of the world and back on track. I'm sure it hasn't gone away, but for now I'm all good and will save my money.

Firstly have been rock climbing twice. This is something I wouldn't have even attempted before I began this journey - I climbed all the way to the top of the walls (only on the easy level) but I did it, and was proud!

Secondly had a bit of a dance floor party pash Friday night. Made me feel good about myself :)

Thirdly I have a new job. In four weeks I am starting as Production Manager/Account manager at a small design agency about a 10 min walk from my apartment. It is exactly what I want to do and all the people seem lovely.

Have trained heaps this week and eating has been 90% excellent which is all I ask of myself. In fact this morning, I have tied my hair back as I couldn't hold my arms up for long enough to blow dry and straighten my hair. I may not be walking properly tomorrow either... but I've been there before!

Big shout out to Miss KatieP who is doing her very first buffness competition this weekend. You go girl! All your comp prep has been an amazing inspiration. xxx

Fixing the Head

In July it will be 2 years since I started this journey. I lost the first 25kg pretty quickly and easily... I averaged 1kg a week. Had a few ups and downs - but that is life, and I soldiered on. The next 5kg has taken me over 6 months and it comes and goes. Since November I have hovered between 78 and 85kg, up and down, up and down. My goal is to get to 70kg.

I have changed my exercise routine - I've changed what I do, what time I do it, how often I do it. I've increased and decreased my training, but nothing seems to have more than a short term effect.

I've been to a nutritionist/naturopath and had a whole range of blood tests to find out that I am within normal range on everything (slightly low in iron). My thyroid function is normal. She prescribed a multivitamin, vitamin C and some minerals in an attempt to boost my immune system so that I could increase my training without getting sick (which is what had been happening). This has worked.

Within this period there has been Christmas and Easter and a couple of weekends away - normal "life" events where I would accept small gains and then work hard to remove them the next week.

Over the past couple of months I have become increasingly frustrated with my results. This in turn, affects my mood, my self image and my general well-being... which then affects what I choose to put in my mouth.

There are other contributing factors to my current frame of mind...
My Nana died just before Easter, my dog had to be put down a couple of weeks ago, my rent has gone up and I can't really afford it anymore. My office is moving from North Sydney to Thornleigh so I am looking for a new job. I didn't get 2 of the jobs I wanted as the other applicants had more experience (out of my control, but doesn't mean I don't take it personally). A previous employer has contacted me and asked me to go back, but in a role that was below what I had previously (again, I take it personally when I should be happy that they want me back).

Then there's the old body image issue. In February this year I managed to lose about 3kg over 2-3 weeks and was rapt with my results. This got me some attention from a male superior at work. Nothing too out of line - just the odd comment which made me uncomfortable. Now I could look at this as a form of sexual harrassment, and technically it is, but there's alot more too it. I don't think it is that cut and dried - he was just trying to give me a compliment, and as guys do sometimes they mess it up. Plus, I am leaving anyway and don't want to put myself through the stress of raising it as an issue.

Normally I would laugh it off and get on with life. But somehow I think I am using it to sabotage myself... ever since then my eating has been terrible.

I am single and sometimes feel like I will stay that way forever. Typically guys show interest, and I back away. I have never been one for a 'one night stand' even though I have no moral issues with it, and in fact, encourage my girlfriends to do it. My issue is with my body. I can go out feeling attractive, but as soon as it comes to getting the gear off I feel like I am still 111kg.

I crave sweet, high GI foods, and generally give in to those cravings. The old routine of emotional eating has kicked back in. Life is shit and I don't care enough about myself to change it. Except that I do. I am thinking about all of this and I am writing it here to clear my head a bit. And I have an idea...

In this month's Fitness First magazine there is an article that I find very interesting (page 32 for those playing at home). A lady by the name of Teya runs a nutritional/counselling/kineseology practice that deals with the physical, nutritional and mental issues associated with losing weight. Have a look at the website: http://www.empowered-living.com.au/

An initial consultation is $150. I am thinking of going because I think I need to sort out my emotional issues once and for all. Although it is alot of money, and could end up alot more than $150 I see it as an investment in myself. Has anyone else done anything similar? Any thoughts?

Rock Climbing Extraordinaire!!!!

I went rock climbing last night and it was amazing... I was really surprised at what I could do. I only did the 'easy' level, but I did lots of different walls. Next time I won't do it on the same day as a big weights session though... and I won't follow with a boxing session at 6am the next day... that kind of hurts!

Reporting in

I didn't face the scales this morning as it was 5.15am and my eyes weren't open enough! I have been hovering from 84.3 to 85 the past couple of days. Saturday I did 4 hours walking and then the scales were back up to 85 on Sunday morning - what's with that???!!! I guess that is why common advice is to only weigh once a week :)

Massive weights session at the gym this morning. Going rock climbing tonight, and have another PT session in the morning. If I do something, I do it properly! I want to get these kgs off, and seeing I am struggling with eating the right things, I will exercise like a demon. Plus I love it.

Does anyone have any good protein smoothie recipes they would like to share? I have found that mixing my vanilla protein powder with milk, berries & yogurt is actually quite tolerable.

Day 1

Day 1 of my 'face the scales' mission... 84.8kg. Loss of 300g. Yay!
Trained this morning, so far food is good. Avoiding social occasions tonight in favour of a healthy dinner, hot bath and a good book. Gym again in the morning.

Faced the scales

Well this morning I faced the scales. I knew I had put on weight as my jeans were getting tighter and I feel ferral. I didn't want to know what I weighed so I have put it off for weeks. Gone are the daily weigh in sessions - but they are coming back. I find it keeps me focussed. I have been dealing with my weight the same way I deal with my credit card bill... I don't open it!

So, today I weigh 85.1kg. I have gained 7kg since December. I feel disgusting and I hate myself for doing it. I thought this wouldn't happen to me again - I thought I had a handle on the emotional eating. I have just proved myself wrong - I still have a lot of things to deal with, and maybe I will never have it totally under control. Maybe I will struggle with my weight for the rest of my life.

Linebreak tights

When should I wear my LineBreak tights?
LineBreak compression tights offer support to working muscles by reducing the severity of muscle oscilation and muscle fibre breakdown. Compression also promotes better circulation of re-oxygenated blood to working muscles and facilitates improved removal of chemical bi-products such as lactic acid. This means you will benefit from using LineBreak tights during a training session by reducing the level of muscular damage and improving your training output. After training or playing, LineBreak compression tights should be worn for two to three hours whilst you recover. The improved circulation will increase your level and speed of recovery.

Yeah right! There is no way I am spending 2-3 hours in my own sweat after a run!!!!

16 hours post run...

Very happy with my fabulous compression tights. I am only a little sore today - nothing that would stop me backing up with another run today. I may have found myself a good solution! My core is a bit sore though... didn't even realise I was using it so much.

I also think they will be great for those early morning runs when it is freezing cold... they kept me snug and didn't get sweaty, so none of the 'cold air on wet clothes' thing that we all love so much at an outdoor 6am winter session. Add them with my icebreaker T-shirt and I'll be all kitted out looking like a real runner as I plod along.

Here's the sexy tights that I got from Rebel...

They were cheaper than skins, and also plain black. Brightly coloured seams highlighting my thighs and arse are not exactly the most flattering thing ever invented.

hmmmm

I hate protein shakes! Maybe I need to try a different brand (any suggestions?) cause mine leaves a yucky aftertaste in my mouth. I've tried it with milk & with water. Yucky yucky yucky. I'm going to stick with the protein bars this week as I find some of them more tolerable.

Today I went for a run and roadtested my new compression tights. I have been thinking about them for ages, and today finally splashed out on a pair. While they don't look the best, they are really comfortable. I found running in them really good... there was no lactic acid build up (even on hills & stairs) so felt quite comfortable the whole way round (except for the breathing bit, but tights aren't going to help that!). I came home and left them on for about half an hour before the sweaty stinkiness got the better of me and I had to have a shower. So far, feeling pretty good. I would say the tights are a success - but we'll see what tomorrow brings. After a long run with hills & stairs I am often a bit sore.

Here's my plan for this week:
Sunday - 30 min run, 30 min walk
Monday - 30 min bike ride
Tuesday - 30 min bike ride, 1 hour PT (weights), rock climbing
Wednesday - rest
Thursday - 30 min bike ride, 30 min run (tempo)
Friday - 30 min bike ride, 1 hour PT (weights)
Saturday - 3 hour walk

Notice Tuesday... rock climbing!!! Yes that is right. I've never done it before and never even had a desire to try it. Now that I am fitter and stronger though, I'm going to try it. One of the boys at work goes regularly, so I am going to tag along.

Today at the supermarket I bought some vegie juice, and a vitamin fruit/vegie juice to try. I know juice is high in carbs and you are much better off eating actual fruit, but sometimes I don't get enough. Love my fruit, but am fussy. It has to be really nice (the downside of being brought up on an orchard where everything was home grown). I sometimes don't get enough vegies either... so I'm going to give it a go. Haven't tasted it yet.... waiting for it to get cold. Bring on the vitamins!
